Bloons Tower Defense 7: The Solar Sanctum is a game that is a part of the Bloons TD series. Like the installments before it, it introduces new mechanics to ensure a fresh and distinguishable game play, such as an elements system, a revamp to the difficulty system, and more.

Because of how resource-intensive the game can get, such as high-quality cutscenes and theatrical attacks, as well as the high demand for micromanagement, the game (if it would ever be released) would only be on Steam.

Story[]

BTD7: The Solar Sanctum takes place on an alternate universe of Meta07's version of BTD6. Following the conclusion of the Aurae Saga, the Monkeys have inaugurated an alliance with the Bloons Empire, as they were free from the corruption of the now-defeated E.N.T.I.T.Y. Bloontonium Lab was relocated and reconstructed in a secluded location, being used for scientific operations. The Bloons-Monkey Alliance invented new technologies to further their new civilization, protect their planet from extraterrestrial attacks, and hopefully expand out into the cosmos.

Three years after the Bloons and the Monkeys had formed a peace treaty with each other, however, a gigantic beam of light was sighted by Monkey witnesses, erupting from the ground and releasing a ton of energy that rippled through the ground, creating a bone-shattering shockwave, while shining with the power of a supernova, blinding anyone that looks directly at it, while illuminating the Earth more than every star in the galaxy. After the event, reports of Bloons gaining back their animosity against the Monkeys had spread across the globe like wildfire, turning the deadly blimps that the two empires constructed together into violent machines that want nothing but the devastation of their age-old adversaries.

Top Monkey scientists traced this anomaly to a powerful Bloon that is so strong, it is able to ascend to the divine plane of existence. And they were right. This mysterious Bloon, which the Monkeys dubbed "G.O.D." (Gilded Omnipotent Dictator,) went face to face with the True Sun God, and quickly blitzed him, sapping his power to become something so nightmarishly powerful, nothing in the universe can stop it. The True Sun God wasn't fully dead however, as it used its remaining energy to seal its heavenly nemesis into a divine seal named the Solar Sanctum, which stood tall on the grounds of Earth. Unfortunately, even after being sealed by the Solar Sanctum, G.O.D. was radiating so much energy that the Solar Sanctum grew unstable, and its seal on the deity loosened over time. The bloon's conscience still existed even after its banishment, which gave it a chance to sap large quantities of power from the seal and grow even stronger than it was before, even developing an advanced cognition and a desire to rewrite the universe in its own image.

On the land of the mortals, however, the Monkeys were quickly defeated, billions of them losing their lives to the sudden global ambush by the Bloons. The corrupted inflatables left the Monkeys to suffer from their sudden handicaps, and discovered the Solar Sanctum, creating their new capital city around the celestial construct. The bloons have designed new Monkey-terminating death machines, some of which could take on a fleet of Super Monkeys, all of which were used to carry out their unspeakable crimes on the world.

Meanwhile, the Monkeys took refuge in an underground city that they built with their fair share of technology. The monkeys knew that the Solar Sanctum's strength was being sapped by the anomalous bloon, so they planned to attack the Solar Sanctum and destroy G.O.D. before it grows powerful enough to fulfill its destiny. Through four more years of intense training and new technological innovations, the newly forged Monkey Rebellion, led by excellent strategist and inventor Paragon, launches an all-out attack on the Bloon Empire and the Solar Sanctum to restore the prosperity and peacefulness of the lands to the pastoral environment it once was.

The following text contains spoilers for Story Mode. Heed this warning at your own risk.

G.O.D.'s identity is revealed later on when Paragon suffers through a delusion in which he was able to directly communicate with the divine bloon itself. G.O.D. divulges to the archengineer that it is actually E.N.T.I.T.Y., the World Eater that the Monkeys had defeated in the Reactor Core several years ago, and was presumed to be gone forever in its defeat at the end of the Aurae Saga. As it turns out, when the nuclear tyrant was defeated, a portion of it was left intact within the Reactor Core. Despite only being a fraction of its former self, E.N.T.I.T.Y. was able to muster up extra energy from it's prison, which eventually enabled it to break out of the Reactor Core, and dawn upon the physical world for the first time since its presence in Bloons 1 as "Bloon 177." It had collected so much energy that it was able to absorb divine power from the True Sun God, though it wasn't powerful enough to completely vanquish the deity.

New Features[]

Major[]

  • A new story mode that introduces bloons exclusive to said mode. Prizes for completing through the story mode include certain (but not all) towers, heroes, a fair sum of Monkey Money, as well as Monkey Knowledge points. Includes cutscenes that can fortunately be skipped.
  • A hero system, which is the same as in NK's version of BTD6.
  • A lot more bloons and bloon properties. Some properties even have sub-properties! Here is a list of all the properties you can encounter!
  • A cornucopia of new Auracryst variants. (Spoiler Alert: There will be many. The normal Auracryst will be heavily nerfed due to a plan of widespread usage throughout Story Mode, as well as an in-lore explanation that will be written later.)
  • A reworked health and damage system, which includes the introduction of a fleshed-out element mechanic, where attacks from towers and Bloons alike will fall into certain elements. Here is a more in-depth explanation of how this mechanic works.
  • New status effects to spice up combat. Here is a list of them!
  • Attacks from Bloons now have a cooldown system, where they cannot use an attack for a certain amount of time, and an Attack Stack system, where they can use an attack several times before it goes on cooldown.
  • New towers to expand the arsenal of the Monkeys. Returning in this game are the Bloonchippers, Beekeepers (as Melittologists), as well as some of the new towers from Meta07's BTD6.
  • Each track now has a special "Track Boss" that appears on round 100 of Hard / 125 of Bloonatic. An example would be The Gold Baron.
  • New Monkey Knowledge system: Monkey Knowledge now has individual upgrade trees for each tower, rather than a single tower category. Points can now be bought with $500 Monkey Money.
  • The addition of Melee Monkeys, or monkeys that can only be placed right on the track.
  • Technological Monkeys: a new division of fighters that have joined the fray! Technological Monkeys are distinguished from other monkeys by having access to high-tech weaponry as soon as they are deployed vanilla, rather than starting off with primitive / traditional / mystical weapons like the other classes.
  • The Bloonopedia returns in this game, now under the name "Bloonstarium."
  • Attack damage can now span through any positive rational number, decimals included.
  • New Challenge Editor: Now you can edit rounds by replacing a bloon type with another, increase damage multipliers, and also increase other statistics such as sell cost, monkey health, elemental stats, whether it is a lose-to-win, where towers can be placed, and more! Speed, health, and damage multipliers can now be added to an individual bloon type. You can also make your own Races with the new Challenge Editor as well.
  • Several buffs, nerfs, and reworks to existing towers to make them more interesting and distinct.
  • Powers are removed, with the exception of the Monkey Farmer.

Minor[]

New minor features include simple balance changes, or quality-of-life changes.

  • Starting cash is increased to $850, compared to the normal $650 in the official BTD6.
  • A global 6% decrease to the size of tower footprints.
  • New targeting priorities: Weak, Special (targets important bloons, only available in Story Mode and some special missions), Attacking (targets bloons in the middle of attacks, First targeting otherwise), Slow, and Fast.
  • Targeting priorities are now represented in tabs, just like in BTD4.
  • New informative, yet terse descriptions for upgrades. No longer do you have to deal with the annoyance of an upgrade's description saying something vague like "This is a BIG plane" in game.
    • Detailed descriptions (showed in italics in the tower's articles), as well as comedic flavor text can be read in their Bloonstarium entry.
  • Fast forward no longer makes towers worse, now accurately lapsing the speed. Fast-forward is slowed down to 2x regular speed.
  • New option: Turbo Speed, makes the game 4x as fast!
  • Bloons and Monkeys now display a health bar underneath.
  • Towers now display their cumulative price next to the sell price.
  • The option to select multiple towers to sell at once is added.

Towers[]

As explained in the "New Features" section, towers can be ranged, or melee. Ranged means that the tower can be placed on normal appropriate terrain, while Melee means that the tower can be placed on the track and the track only.

Towers in bold mean that the tower is new to TSS, and isn't already based on an official tower or a BTD5 special agent. Towers in Italics belong to Meta07, whose conceptions are said to be public. TSS versions of them coming soon. Underlined towers mean that a revamped upgrade or upgrade path is envisioned for them, but they have appeared in NK's BTD6.

Solarium Destroyer A portable nuclear reactor that burns with the energy of a thousand pulsars, capable of incinerating anything by releasing flames that measure a sweltering 20 million° Celsius. Mk. VI 「Eschaton」 The Mk. VI is the first model released as the beginning stage of Project: 0LR. Despite being a supposed upgrade of the Mk. V, this model isn't considered a part of the B Project Jet Bomber lineup due to its time of development, and how radically different it is compared to the previous model. Due to the amount of years Project: OLR initiated after the creation of the Mk. V, the technology wielded by the death machine far surpasses that of its predecessor. TBA TBA TBA
Mk. VII 「Judgement」 The Mk. VII is the second stage of Project: 0LR. Unlike the previous model, Mk. VII utilizes the power of the sun to slay unrighteous monkeys feeble enough to challenge the might of the Bloon Empire. TBA TBA TBA

Difficulties[]

Main[]

In BTD7:TSS, there are 4 main difficulties to choose from. Unlike previous installments, difficulties do not change the price of towers nor the speed of bloons. Rather, difficulties solely influence round compositions. The main difficulties include:

  • Easy - Defeat 50 weak rounds, with a simple M.O.A.B. rush at the end.
  • Medium - Survive through 75 average rounds led by a bulky ZOMG that greets you at the final round.
  • Hard - Stem a rush of augmented bloons for 100 rounds, and encounter a fearsome X-level threat Track Boss at the end.
  • Bloonatic - Try to keep your sanity as 125 rounds of nightmarishly strong streams of bloons try to end your existence, especially at moments when you are at the cusp of victory. Beware, as an unfathomably powerful ZK-level threat Track Boss awaits your arrival, ready to end any souls weakened by endless hair-pulling.
  • Apopalypse - As soon as the Bloons start spawning, they do not stop until victory is achieved. Clear 100 dangerous rounds of Bloons that constantly become more and more threatening the longer you go. Defeat the X-level Track Boss in order to win.

Modifiers[]

Difficulty modifiers change the way a match plays, such as disabling certain towers, or empowering bloons through increasing their health or giving all of them in a game a certain property. Unlike NK's BTD6, they aren't limited to a single type of difficulty, meaning that both Hard and Bloonatic can have the C.H.I.M.P.S. modifier. The modifiers are:

  • Primary Only - Primary monkeys and your hero only!
  • Military Only - Bring your strongest arsenal for this one, cause only Military Monkeys + your hero are allowed to be placed.
  • Technological Only - The future has become the present. Technological monkeys + your hero are only allowed to be placed.
  • Magic Only - Mystical arts will be the only thing that will keep you safe with this modifier enabled.
  • Covert Pops - All bloons are now camo!
  • Metallurgic Madness - Starting from the first round that Lead Bloons normally appear in, all Bloons will have the Lead property.
  • Double HP MOABs - Any M.O.A.B. Class Bloon as well as the Track Boss will have double the HP. This applies to Multi-Part blimps as well.
  • More Elemental Resistances - Certain bloons will become harder to defeat as they gain additional resistances to any element.
  • Alternate Track Boss - The Track Boss that normally appears at the end of Hard / Bloonatic difficulty will be changed.
  • Deflation - Start at round 30 and end at round 80 with a large amount of cash that increases with difficulty. However, additional cash CANNOT be gained past what you are given at the beginning, EVEN with Double Cash enabled!
  • C.H.I.M.P.S. - The ultimate test to see if you fully grasp the mechanics of BTD7. No Continues, Hearts Lost, Extra Income, Monkey Knowledge, Premiums, and Selling. The completion of Bloonatic difficulty with this modifier enabled separates the men from the boys, the kings from the peasants, the nukes from the grenades, the pioneers from the followers, and the committed from the cheaters.

Tracks[]

The various tracks that the player can complete for rewards in standard play, each with their own set of medals to collect from completion. Some can be unlocked from ranking up, some can simply be unlocked by completing a number of tracks of lower difficulties, and others can be unlocked from Story Mode.

Note: Tracks in bold indicate that the track is new in BTD7:TSS. Tracks in italics indicate that they originally belong to Meta07, whose conceptions are said to be public. Underlined tracks mean that they changed compared to their latest appearance in terms of bloon and track behavior.

Special Missions[]

  • 1P Relay - Based on the Arknights self-imposed challenge of the same name, this special mission requires players to beat Lobby on Bloonatic Apopalypse. The catch is that you can only place a maximum of 1 towers on the map, they can only stay on the track for 10 seconds until they are automatically sold, and all abilities do not have an initial cooldown. Additionally, end of round cash is applied and gives out twice the amount, each second gives money equal to three times the round number, and sell price is increased to 90% of a tower's cumulative price.
  • Codexhak Craziness - Defeat Round 1 on Nostalgia Meadows in Easy Difficulty. The catch is that each of the Red Bloons have 3 Pure Auracrysts, and are spaced out even farther than usual. $500,000 starting cash.
  • Sons of Quincy - All towers are disabled except for your Hero. However, you can place an infinite amount of them, provided that you don't run out of space. Every time you place a Hero, however, their buying price gets multiplied by 1.5. Each Hero, however, shares the same level as the earliest one you placed. Beat Paragon Industries on Hard Double HP M.O.A.B.s while under this condition. $3,000 starting cash.
  • When Day Breaks - Beat 80 custom rounds in Bloontonium Lab with $2,500 starting cash. However, slivers of sunlight will illuminate the grounds of the map, while the rest will be noticeably darker than usual, making the map look like an apocalyptic disaster had just taken place. Any towers placed on the sunlight will deform into malevolent, gelatinous monsters that can conglomerate with their kin. Monkeys with a ton of skin protection, as well as machines, are immune to the light. Unfortunately, just because a monkey is placed in the dark doesn't mean they are completely safe, as not only will the monsters exposed to the sunlight will try to drag surviving monkeys into the sunlight, but also Lead Bloons, H.T.A.s, S.W.O.R.D.s, and Solarium Spellweavers will spawn more frequently during this mission, and they can either reflect or bend the sunlight either with their structural composition or their magic. At the last round, both Z.O.M.G. Prime and The Gold Baron will spawn, all capable of reflecting the light. Based on SCP-001 (S.D. Locke's Proposal)
  • No Escape: Reloaded - Defeat 25 rounds in a custom circular map where bloons are doomed to move through a loop until their inevitable death. If a wave lasts through 30 seconds or more, then every second after that will tick off a life.
  • RLBloons - Defeat Medium Difficulty on Seasonal Globe. At the beginning of the game, only Dart Monkeys, Boomerang Monkeys, Watermelon Spitters, Monkey Shacks, and Monkey Farms are allowed. As the rounds progress, more towers will be available in succeeding technological advancements. Any tower that exhibits clear magic like Monkey Apprentices are entirely banned from this Special Mission. Monkeys are also affected by temperature changes caused by seasons, which change after 10 seconds, and monkeys will regularly have to be fed with a certain amount of money, making farming a necessity. Just like real life. On the final round, a Blazewing D.R.A.G.O.N. will spawn.

Trivia[]

  • This game was pretty much a result of what would happen if G.O.D. was the name of an actually decent conception.
  • The idea of making difficulties enhance bloon waves was derived from Bloons TDX, which is a fangame for the Bloons series.
  • Most of the heroes are references:
    • Excelion's name is a reference to Gloria in excelsis Deo, a Christian hymn.
    • Paragon is a reference to the Sentry Paragon from NK's BTD6.
      • Paragon is supposed to serve as a compensation for the removal of the Sentry Paragon in favor of a new upgrade: Sentry Templar, coming soon.
    • Logcolumn is a reference to Woodrow Wilson, the president of America during WWI.
    • Python is a reference to the coding language of the same name. The Hexagon in his description is essentially TSS's version of the Pentagon.
    • Darris is inspired by the Demoman from Team Fortress 2.
    • The Overtaker is a reference to the Undertaker, a famed WWE wrestler.
    • Asdad is essentially a fusion of Alfred T. Mahan and H.P. Lovecraft.
    • Archimedes is a reference to the Greek mathematician and physicist of the same name, as well as Medic's pet dove of the same name in Team Fortress 2.
  • The concept of Ranged and Melee towers being placed on different locations is derived from the concept of Melee and Ranged Operators in Arknights.
  • How many of this game is complete? Well, my current ambitions for the game are expansive, so its hard to say, but maybe 0.3% considering how many concepts have already been envisioned and how many core mechanics have been established and fleshed out.
